Biogas – Cleanly domestic energy

Biogas produced from renewable domestic raw materials is an environmentally friendly choice. It is popular as the lowest-emission and cheapest biofuel for transport.

The digestate coming out of the biogas plant is recycled at our composting plant into fertilizers preparation or soil raw material. Consequently, our treatment of bio-waste is classified as waste recycling (Commission Decision 2011/753 / EC, Article 2.6.).

With an annual production capacity of up to 50 GWh, we are one of the most significant biogas plants in Finland. The production volume corresponds to the annual fuel consumption of 4,500 passenger cars.

Our partner Gasum Oy processes the biogas we produce and is responsible for the distribution and sale of swan-labeled gas.

Benefits of biogas:

Soil improvers – Growth power from compost products

Every year, we produce approximately 22,000 tonnes of soil conditioners from incoming waste and side streams.

Our high-quality compost products are Kujala Growth Compost and Kujala Biocompost. Both products are classified as Class 3A. Organic soil improvers. We deliver our high-quality compost products in their entirety for utilisation in agriculture, substrate manufacturing, landscaping and, on a case-by-case basis, for special technical use. The compost products are further processed and distributed by our partners.

Kujala Growth Compost and Kujala Biocompost

Kujala Growth Compost and Kujala Biocompost are ecologically sustainable soil improvers. As such, they are suitable for e.g. cereal and energy crops, landscaping and erosion prevention. Soil improvers bind moisture and nutrients well and improve the crumb structure and fertility of the soil.
The raw material for Kujala Growth Compost is partly sewage sludge. Only bio-based products have been used as raw materials for Kujala Biocompost.

In agriculture, the repeated use of soil improvers enables efficient arable farming. When Kujala Growth or Biocompost is used in grain fields in accordance with a farm-specific cultivation plan, the nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium it contains can be used to replace other fertilisers. The use of a soil conditioner improves the physical, chemical and biological quality of the field. In this way, the amount of nutrients released to the plants can be significantly increased. With a modern precision spreader, 500-1000 m³ of compost can be spread per day.
